Great Love Mothers 2025

Great Love Mothers in Schools

Primary schools in Singapore hold weekly sessions for Character and Citizenship Education. In collaboration with the schools, Tzu Chi’s Great Love Mothers are invited to enter the classroom each week to share Jing Si Aphorisms and humanistic values, gently guiding students in their journey of growth.

Through storytelling, skits, group activities and the sharing of Jing Si Aphorisms, the team presents character education in an engaging, lively manner. These lessons help children absorb values such as gratitude, respect and contentment in a natural and joyful way.

For over a decade, the humanistic approach of the Great Love Mothers has earned the trust and appreciation of schools. The team has accompanied over ten thousand students across three primary schools, nurturing them through their formative years. On special occasions such as Teachers’ Day and Children’s Day, the team also supports the planning of performances and tea offering ceremonies, helping to bring the spirit of love and gratitude into everyday school life.

About the Team

“Love the children of others with the heart of a mother, and love our own children with the compassion of a Bodhisattva.”

Inspired by this heartfelt teaching from Dharma Master Cheng Yen, a group of mothers who aspired to walk alongside children in their journey of growth established the Great Love Mothers team in September 2007. Most of the team members were housewives or freelancers, later joined by fathers who had retired from work who shared the same aspiration to nurture young hearts with love, patience and the values of humanistic education.

Many volunteers began with no prior experience in teaching or performing. Through their commitment and willingness to learn, they gradually acquired skills such as hosting, acting, sign language performance, storytelling and prop-making.

The team holds weekly sessions for lesson planning and rehearsals, ensuring each class is delivered with intention and care. In addition, regular book clubs and study groups are organised to encourage continuous learning, reflection and mutual exchange.

The team holds weekly gatherings for fellowship, class preparation and rehearsals. This consistent effort ensures that each classroom session is delivered with care, clarity and warmth. In addition to weekly meetings, the team conducts training sessions during school holidays to deepen their understanding of Tzu Chi’s Four Missions and the spirit of Jing Si Aphorisms. Volunteers also engage in reflective discussions on how to meaningfully convey these teachings to students, with the aim of continually enhancing the quality and impact of the programme.

Through this journey of service, the Great Love Mothers not only support the moral development of young learners but also experience their own personal growth. As they accompany children with sincerity and compassion, they too are nourished by the values they share, deepening their wisdom and strengthening their resolve to serve with love.
